Window Film History

The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) formed the Window Film Group in the 1980s, although the innovation itself was first developed in the USA in the 1960s as a tinting solution for automotive glass.

Since then, window film has become an affordable and viable option to upgrade the glass in windows, doors, and curtain walling. It can:

  • Reduce solar heat gain and glare
  • Improve energy savings
  • Improve thermal insulation
  • Filter at least 99% of UV rays
  • Improve safety and security (it is a counter-terrorism measure)
  • Improve explosion blast mitigation
  • Increase privacy and add decoration
  • Provide manifestation, signage, and branding options
  • Protect glass from graffiti and vandalism
